Igor Tishin is one of the most talented artists of the new wave from Belarus. Trained at the Minsk Academy of Fine Arts, he was first 'formatted' to perpetuate the Eastern European Socialist Realism of the 20th Century. With the fall of the USSR the majority of painters abandoned the theme of Second World War partisans for the search of a new identity. Igor Tishin for his part returned to the theme with the intention to metamorphose it. Combining his freedom as a painter with the spontaneity of a photographer, Tishin captures shards of real images, places of traumatizing experiences in which he intervenes as painter, superimposing the imaginary and the real that thus coexist in a new, insolent, subversive form.
