Eric Kengen

- 1952 Belgium -

Following a short school education, Eric Kengen tried his hand at various jobs, while continuing to work at drawing.

In 1982, diverse circumstances led to his first exhibition, after which he found himself able to devote himself full-time to painting. Painting became a means to constructing the self. With the passage of time, a unique universe came into being, on the singular affect, a syntax of ancient gesture, of relationships, in which the human figure is positioned under the aegus of the ambiguous and the irresolute.

Intrigue, the “true” lie as a path of truth.

Tenderness, fidelity, filiation, sensuality, symbolic figures, siblings: all play their part and are manifested in clear and direct language.
